Aristolochia debilis Chinese Tumpet Vine
Aristolochia debilis is an exotic vine from the misty mountains of China where it's been grown for centuries for use in traditional medicine. The tiny fragrant blossoms look like burgundy trumpets, weird and charming against shiny evergreen foliage.
Evergreen in zones 8-11, Chinese Pipe Vine blooms enthusiastically in light shade. It will climb up to 25 feet if planted by a tree or trellis. It needs fairly rich, moist soil, is perfectly happy in a container, and does very well indoors. It blooms all summer and the sweet fragrance will bring butterflies to your garden.
Aristolochia debilis seeds germinate slowly. They should be soaked for 48 hours in warm water and surface sown as soon as they swell. They need light to germinate. Stratification will do wonders.
