Brugmansia suaveolens - Golden Angel's Trumpet
Angel's Trumpet is an enormous fragrant bloomer from Brazil. Masses of voluptuous blossoms cover the huge plants from spring till frost, perfuming the night air. Blooms are a foot long and dozens appear at a time. These are magnificent showpieces, they give any garden a tropical look, and they're easy to grow.
Brugmansias thrive in rich, most soil with full sun or dappled shade. Perennial in zones 9-11, they'll grow 10' tall and wide in the ground, a bit smaller in a container. In cool climates, they grow well in a pot, can be cut back in fall and overwintered indoors, or they''ll come back quickly from cuttings in spring.
Brugmansias can be white, pink, peach, gold, ruffled. This gold version is one of the sturdiest, and it out-blooms any I've seen. Blossoms can cover an entire plant and it blooms several times a year.
Soak the corky covers off the seeds, then plant in rich warm soil and barely cover with fine soil. Seeds need light to germinate. They can take 2 to 6 weeks to sprout, but can bloom the first year.
