Parthenocissus tricuspidata - Boston Ivy

$2.99

Boston Ivy is the delicate creeper that make ivy colleges look like Ivy Colleges. It clings to any vertical surface with little suction cups, grows in almost any zone, turns a glorious red in the fall, and produces vivid blue berries that birds love.

This is one useful vine. It will cover most any flat surface with lush green foliage, doesn't need support or much attention, is gorgeous most of the year, and if you want it gone, you just pull it off the wall.

Parthenocissus grows to 90'. Given enough time it can completely cover walls, fences, small buildings, dead trees. It's deciduous, and after turning spectacular colors in fall, it leaves winding trails up the surface where it was growing, very picturesque.

Boston Ivy is just plain useful. It grows naturally in moist forests, but will tolerate the full sun and smog of Los Angeles. It insulates buildings. It makes any place feel cool and woodsy and you don't need to fuss with it. Birds love the berries and often nest in the foliage. It's good for erosion control. It lasts forever. Don't plant it near something you don't want covered, like your rose garden. It's easy to pull off a wall, but tends to stick around for the long haul.

Seeds should be planted in fall or stratified. Germination will be erratic at best if seeds are not chilled before planting.
