Salvia guaranitica "Black and Blue"

Salvia guaranitica "Black and Blue"

This showy Salvia has glowing blue flowers, each popping out of a black calyx. Its long cobalt blossoms seem to glow. Salvia guaranitica is huge and deserves its own space in the garden. It grows 6' tall, 3' wide, and produces long spikes of flowers from May through November.

Native to Brazil, Black & Blue Sage is perennial in warm zones 9-11, hardy down to 20*. It can be brought indoors in cool zones if grown in a large container. Give it full sun, good drainage, water when dry.

There are several variants of Salvia guarantica, and an occasional plant may differ from the others, one with a green calyx perhaps, another purple or baby blue. All will be spectacular.

Hummingbirds love this plant. I can't imagine a garden where it wouldn't be welcome.
